SEPTA FORWARD: BUS REVOLUTION

Launch of SEPTA Bus Revolution Kicks off Three-Year Customer & Community Engagement Initiative to Reimagine & Transform Region’s Bus Network

We are pleased to share that today SEPTA is launching “SEPTA Forward: Bus Revolution,” a comprehensive redesign of its entire bus network that will improve the overall rider experience and make the bus network reliable, efficient and simpler to understand and use. We understand that this initiative is extremely important to you and your constituents who use SEPTA, and we look forward to working throughout this process to help you engage and inform your constituents, residents and stakeholders.

This three-year effort will take a thorough and holistic look at SEPTA’s city and suburban bus network and will include robust and transparent rider and community engagement. SEPTA will seek public and stakeholder input on issues such as bus routing, bus stop spacing, frequency, and span of service. Every bus route, whether in the city or suburbs, will be open for review and consideration.

As part of the launch, SEPTA has created a project website – https://septabusrevolution.com/ – which will serve as a central location for news and information about the project. The site is now live and includes an overview of the bus network redesign initiative, project goals, project schedule, fact sheets and FAQs, and a survey to help kick-off the public participation component as this vital effort gets underway. We will be looking for input from transit riders and community members throughout the process. This survey is the first step!

The current bus network has not been significantly altered in decades, but the city and region – and the needs of the community – have changed. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted ridership patterns requiring a hard look at how to recover and move forward. Our consultant team, led by Nelson/Nygaard is taking a blank-slate approach that will enable a transformation of the bus network using existing resources and building on the assets SEPTA already has, with the goal of creating a bus network that meets the evolving needs of the people – and our environment – now and into the future. SEPTA expects to have the network redesign completed and in place by the end of 2023.

Please take a moment to share the attached Bus Revolution fact sheet and website with your employees, residents, and stakeholders, and please also share with us the contact information of any key stakeholder organizations/institutions or individuals that you think could support robust and active public involvement in the process.
